KMK-sponsored local cyclist Ellen McDermott continues to excel

As we reaffirm our support for talented local cyclist sponsorship Ellen McDermott by continuing her for 2023, we take a look back at her past year’s amazing achievements, with an update straight from Ellen.

A RECAP OF A SUCCESSFUL 2022

I hope 2023 is off to a great start for you all.

I was so delighted to see your support of Tullamore fighter Grainne Walsh which was announced last week. And what an achievement for Grainne. That was an incredible result for her - I hope she's a huge inspiration.

I was even more delighted with KMK Metals Recycling's continued sponsorship of me for 2023.

2022 was a particularly successful year for me, both abroad and on Irish soil. Here are my Top four highlights.

  • I claimed my second pro win of the season after proving best in the sprint from the breakaway at the end of the Kevin Van Impe GP in Belgium on my very last day on the continent.  I was awarded a microwave on the podium for my efforts!

  • I sprinted to 2nd on Stage 4 of the Rás na mBan in in Piltown with my Dad there at the stage finish. It is always special to have him there - even if he can never spot me in the bunch.  (Photo credit: John Hammer)

  • I finally got a win at the UK Tour Series which I'd been chasing for a long time. It was a team effort, but I was absolutely buzzing to win.  (Photo credit: Matt de B)

  • Another highlight was securing 4th place at the British National Gravel Championships. Considering Ireland didn't host a national championsips, this makes me the Irish National Gravel champ in my eyes!

I have also included a photo from the final day of Rás na mBan. It summarises everything I love about racing. It was pouring rain all day, but the crowds were out; the kids were all screaming support; we finished in Kilkenny City, and I had just finished my fifth Rás. Thanks to our team photographer Phil Metcalf for capturing the moment

This year will be much of the same but with my eyes set on some more long-distance Gravel racing.

KMK's support will go a long way. Thanks again for everything.
