Colour all the way at KMK with vibrant new wall art installation

The perimeter wall of the KMK Metals Recycling facility at Cappincur, Tullamore, has received an exciting new facelift, with the addition of a brightly coloured graffiti art mural, designed and created by Offaly-based artist, Shane Turner.

Based on the types of equipment most commonly recycled by KMK Metals Recycling, the art installation depicts a mixture of large and small appliances such as fridges, ovens, vacuum cleaners, microwaves, kettles, toasters and electric fans as well as a selection of batteries. Painted in a variety of bold colours, the process took over a week to complete.

Max Kyck, General Manager of KMK Metals Recycling, explained the reasons behind sourcing an artist to transform the boundary wall.

“A lot of the work that goes on here at KMK is quite industrial and it’s a busy site with lots of comings and goings. Over the years, we have scaled up our operation hugely, meaning not a lot of space is left idle. I wanted to create an area with our branding clearly visible that shows what we do in an attention-grabbing fun way. We liked the look of Shane’s previous work and he certainly met the brief. We are delighted that this is the first impression that visitors to our headquarters now get,” he said.

Artist, Shane Turner, who is originally from South Africa but lives in Ballinahown, Co. Offaly, was inspired by a tour of the facility.

“I had a lot of ideas about how I could create an eye-catching design for the wall of KMK, but once I had a tour of the facility and spotted the pile of e-waste waiting to be recycled, I was inspired by all the pops of colour. I am really happy with how it turned out and I have also planted a few surprises throughout. If you look closely among the appliances, you might spot a chicken roasting in an oven, a Beatles record or maybe even a couple of aliens,” he said.

KMK Metals Recycling operates out of two state-of-the-art facilities in Tullamore, Co. Offaly and Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath and is responsible for recycling approximately 80% of all the e-waste in Ireland.

The recycling company is currently running a special promotion offering all businesses located in Offaly or Westmeath the opportunity to avail of a free collection of waste IT equipment or small appliances during the month of May. See www.kmk.ie for more information.
