Occupational Health & Safety

KMK Metals Recycling provides safe and healthy working conditions for the prevention of work-related injury and ill-health of all employees, visitors, contractors, neighbours and members of the public.

Our commitment to health and safety helps us maintain consistent productivity and quality work that supports our reputation as an industry leader in the waste sector of Ireland.

We believe that all injuries and incidents are preventable, and we are committed to reduce the risk and/or eliminate hazards, putting controls in place for the prevention of injury and ill health.

It is important that OH&S policy is effectively maintained and communicated within the company so that its importance is understood by all employees, and accessible to all relevant interested parties. KMK Metals Recycling has recently obtained the new ISO 45001:2018 certification after having maintained OHSAS 18001:2007 since 2011.

We have a dedicated Compliance Department and staff at all levels within the company that are trained to a high standard of health & safety awareness, understanding the benefits of having responsibility for their own safety and that of others.

All employees are provided with and actively encouraged to wear a readily available supply of suitable personal protective equipment (PPE). Employees are also trained to the required standards and are aware of any hazards/risks that they may be exposed to during the course of performing their duties.

Participation and consultation with all employees, as well as the application of their experiences, are matters that are particularly important to us. We have a fully functioning Safety Committee with trained safety representatives from key process areas to encourage discussion of H&S issues and resolutions that work for all.

All safety incidents are recorded, investigated and analysed to ensure our accident and incident statistics remain low. We encourage near miss reporting with staff which lead to continual improvement and greater awareness not only for the affected employee, but for the whole company.

Our internal safety awareness initiatives combine targeted communications with specialised training to facilitate a greater commitment to safety in the workplace.

We take on the responsibility of creating a working environment for our employees and partners in which they can work without accidents or illness. We don’t distinguish between our own employees, external employees, or visitors in this respect. We comply with all of the locally applicable legal requirements regarding occupational safety and health protection.
