Environmental Health & Safety Officer

An opportunity exists for a motivated and experienced individual to join our Compliance Team.

We are seeking a suitably qualified EHS professional with good technical knowledge of EHS regulation, standards compliance and licensing.

The Environmental Health & Safety Officer shall be responsible for EHS aspects at KMK’s second facility in Kilbeggan Co. Westmeath and provide support to the established Compliance Department based in Tullamore, Co. Offaly.

The successful applicant must possess the ability to work independently, possess excellent interpersonal skills and have a good eye for detail.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining compliance in-line with facility authorisation, ISO and WEEELABEX requirements;
  • Assistance with Integrated Management System (IMS) administration;
  • Assistance with annual regulatory reporting – AER, NWCPO Return, WEEE/Metal Survey, etc.;
  • Conducting regular internal EHS audits including risk assessments;
  • Completion of scheduled environmental monitoring and reporting as required;
  • Completion of facility energy management tracking and reporting;
  • Providing comprehensive site induction to all new operatives and ensuring all relevant training evaluations are completed and filed appropriately;
  • Conducting EHS toolbox talks and training events;
  • Administration and stocking of P.P.E, first aid equipment, staff uniforms and other EHS supplies;
  • Assistance with external audits as per schedules;
  • Haulier, contractor and service supplier auditing;
  • EHS and maintenance checklist reporting and matrix upkeep;
  • Occupational health surveillance management and maintenance of records, to include occupational dust and noise monitoring;
  • Scheduling, organising and liaising with the company GP on routine medical appointments;
  • Investigating, recording and reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly ensuring any corrective actions are implemented without delay;
  • Maintenance and upkeep of safety data sheets and log of same;
  • Conducting Safety Committee Meetings and maintaining documentary evidence of same, recording suggested solutions and liaison with management on implementation of corrective actions;
  • Assistance with compliance-related questionnaires and queries sent to KMK;
  • Upkeep of Site EHS Signage;
  • Additional IMS and departmental support as required.

Education / Professional Qualifications:

  • A recognised EHS qualification is essential;
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the field of EHS;
  • Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills including proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office;
  • Ability to work on own initiative promoting a safe working environment and an interdependent health and safety culture;
  • Appreciation of the importance of compliance in a well-regulated industry;
  • Recycling industry experience advantageous but not essential;
  • Proactive, “can-do” approach, with an appetite for continuous improvement;
  • Full proficiency in the English language;
  • A full, clean driving licence.

Location:

  • The successful candidate shall be based in Kilbeggan, Co. Westmeath.

Type:

  • 40 hours p/w. Permanent full-time contract subject to probationary period.
